<\/a><\/p>\nI’ve read a lot of things about this new Diorskin Star\u00a0foundation<\/a> launched by Dior in September, mostly\u00a0general interpretations of its concept. The ad with Nathalie Portman illustrates this nicely:<\/p>\n It reminds me\u00a0of the famous French\u00a0Harcourt<\/a> portraits.But, that being said, I don’t think that Dior are going to be providing you with\u00a0the photographer or the makeup artist when you purchase the\u00a0bottle, but we\u00a0can dream… wink<\/span> <\/p>\n So this\u00a0foundation is supposed to be able to recreate a\u00a0“soft-focus” effect, they type you often see with\u00a0professional studio lighting. Basically a “soft-box” \/ Instagram filter kind of foundation. Here is the official Dior line about this\u00a0new foundation:<\/p>\n “Inspired by the professional illuminating techniques and expertise of its makeup artists, Dior invents Diorskin Star, its first brightening foundation: a weightless fluid capable of recreating the spectacular and perfecting light of Dior’s studios. I’ve been testing it for several weeks now. Clearly, the innovation here is in the brightening effect of this foundation, without being either iridescent or shiny\/greasy. This is achieved through\u00a0some innovative and technical components,\u00a0notably\u00a0the combination of 3 specific\u00a0ingredients: The formula is a creamy fluid texture. A classic liquid foundation really. Regarding the ingredients, Dior talks about skincare ingredients (no idea which one, I couldn’t find the info anywhere), but given the high concentration of silicones in the formula, there is no chance that they can penetrate the skin… I must say this doesn’t bother me much. Usually, if I want to give my skin a treatment, I trust my skincare products more than my makeup… The product is scented, so be careful if you have a sensitive skin! For me, it’s not really an issue, I even think that \u00a0this slight floral scent is quite pleasant. It’s subtle though and it doesn’t last on the skin.<\/p>\n The range of available colours is more or less important depending on the country you purchase this. I chose\u00a0a shade 020, which may be a little dark for me, especially for my winter skin color (but I’m not sure we will have a real winter here, so it will probably still be\u00a0a good color match for me throughout the year ;)). The packaging is just total luxury, very Dior, very chic. It is a beautiful 30ml glass bottle with a pump. It is superb. In quantity, I usually apply 2 pumps which is perfect for both my face and my neck. The\u00a0Diorskin Star foundation provides\u00a0medium coverage, unifying\u00a0your complexion without covering big imperfections. For me, it’s a coverage that suits me perfectly. It hides my small redness without having\u00a0an actual mask effect.<\/p>\n The finish is semi-mat immediately after application. The famous “brightening” effect is indeed there, the complexion is glowing without any shine. I have not really been blown away by the correcting effect of this foundation. Well, especially if we talking about\u00a0imperfections in the contours<\/strong>, it doesn’t really work. This foundation tends to highlight the dry patches, the big pimples, or enlarged pores throughout the day. Nothing (bad) to report, the foundation sits comfortably on my face all day long. What I have found really pleasant, is the ultra-light effect, imperceptible and like a second skin when you wear it. Long live these new generation foundation formulas! smile<\/span> <\/p>\n If I put some powder on my T-zone when I’m doing my makeup and if I do some touch-ups with blotting papers throughout the day, the lasting power is very good. It doesn’t migrate to the skin and stays in place, quite evenly. So I would say the lasting power is pretty good. But it’s clear that it must be powdered (even on dry skin, at least on the T-zone, to be sure it stays\u00a0perfectly\u00a0in place). This foundation is\u00a0pretty expensive, that’s for sure. But I find that the quality is there, you really feel that it is a luxury product. \nFor me, this foundation is more akin to enhancing\u00a0the beauty\u00a0of movie stars, more specifically\u00a0‘lightening’. It’s so special, that it will erase all the complexion flaws and give an impression of perfect skin infused in the light…<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
\nSurfing on the\u00a0whole #selfie trend at the moment, the\u00a0selection of a\u00a0name related\u00a0to photography (“studio makeup”) and the whole star aspect of selfies, makes a lot of sense! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n
\nThe complexion is instantly more luminous and visibly more even.
\n<\/b>A new generation of hollow silica beads captures and diffuses light in a correcting halo with no shine. At the same time, colour-filter pigments neutralize colour imbalances to recreate the perfect light.<\/span>
\nThe complexion is purified and more dazzling.
\n<\/b>Anti-“light-trap” skincare ingredients help reduce the appearance of dark areas, pigment spots and redness.”<\/span><\/p>\n
\nMy skin is\u00a0‘combination’ to ‘oily’, with lots of imperfections due to hormonal issues right now. Usually, I tend to avoid dewy foundations because of my oily skin, but now, some of the latest\u00a0foundations’ lightweight formulas\u00a0and textures are easier to wear for my skin type. And for\u00a0most\u00a0skin types, really.
\nAlso, I’m 35. So, I can’t say no anymore when if I can get\u00a0a glowing \/ fresher \/ younger looking skin!
\nSo\u00a0let’s say in my case, the mattifying setting powder to be used following the\u00a0foundation is mandatory (for ages)(with this foundation or others, I still need my blotting powder).<\/p>\nDiorskin Star foundation<\/a>, my review:<\/h3>\n

\n– the “hollow silica beads” that refract and diffuse light on the skin,
\n– some corrective color pigments (a bit like a CC cream)
\n– and some “anti-dull” corrective ingredients that will correct dark spots or redness that give shadows to the skin.
\nAll this in a fluid lightweight formula. Basically, Dior promises an Instagram filter in a bottle! wink<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

\nA cool thing though, is the anti UV protection. It has SPF 30 (against UVB rays) and a PA ++ (against the UVA), which is\u00a0always good to have (especially for me).<\/p>\n\n

\nBasically, I understand that the 010 colors, 020, 030 etc are\u00a0for neutral<\/strong> undertones,the 021, 031, 041 etc colours are for yellow<\/strong> undertones, the 022, 032, 042 etc colours are more appropriate for\u00a0pinkish<\/strong> undertones and finally the 023, 033 etc are for peachy<\/strong> undertones. \nOne thing though, it’s difficult to transport when you’re traveling. But hey, you can’t have expect absolutely everything you need now, can you? wink<\/span> <\/p>\n\n

\nAbout the application techniques, I tried everything:
\n– with my fingertips<\/strong>:\u00a0I didn’t like at all, I felt it was thick on my skin and there were streaks all over my face.Not convinced.
\n– with a foundation brush<\/strong>: I tried with my fav, the Flat Kabuki by Sigma (F80) and it works perfectly. Especially when I was stippling it on the face, without stretching the product. It still takes a bit of time to blend though.
\n– with a foundation sponge<\/strong>: I didn’t buy the Dior sponge<\/a>, because I already have a Beauty Blender <\/a>(yes, mine is white, not pink fuchsia) and a Real Techniques<\/a> sponge which I find very good. This is by far are my favorite application techniques for this foundation. The blending process is good, super fast and very even. The sponge (I use it slightly damp) really helps to merge the product with the skin.<\/p>\n\n

\nI use my Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder which I have already spoken about\u00a0here <\/a>or a transparent loose powder by Ben Nye<\/a>, which is very mattifying and invisible ( I bought mine in the Beauty World salon in Dubai, at a ridiculously low price)(but it’s usually quite cheap however).<\/p>\n\n
Value for money:<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nStrategically, I don’t ruin myself with powders (a lot of high-end powders are overpriced and too expensive), but for a foundation, I always favor quality. I feel you can really see the difference in the\u00a0way it looks on your skin and how long it lasts. But it’s just my opinion.
\nI’d really recommend getting a sample of this foundation or testing on yourself for a few hours (the sales people don’t usually need too much convincing to apply some on your skin for you to see for yourself). It’s exactly what I did, and it really helps to make sure you get the right foundation to match your skin (and the right color!).<\/p>\n\n
