2015 really was the year of the highlighter for me. So many of them caught my eye\u00a0last year, including the\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminators<\/a>.<\/h2>\n

I didn’t just discover highlighters last year, they were already part of my face makeup routine before then\u00a0but weren’t a daily item. However, as this is a big makeup trend right now and I’m such a sheep for\u00a0this kind of stuff, it was so hard to resist all the beauties released in 2015 (well, I didn’t\u00a0really tried, to be honest\u00a0:P)<\/p>\n

If I had to give an\u00a0award for the most beautiful form of pressed highlighter powder, it would probably be for these Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminators<\/a>! They are absolutely gorgeous<\/strong>, some real gems.\u00a0And I just couldn’t\u00a0resist them. (I’m not sure it’s really the best reason to buy a product, but when something\u00a0is that\u00a0pretty, it’s necessarily useful, right?\u00a0I think you can call it eye candy<\/strong>!)<\/p>\n

I also heard of these Illuminators on\u00a0absolutely\u00a0every makeup\u00a0YouTube channels I follow. They were basically everywhere<\/strong>. The brand has obviously done a great job\u00a0massively sending them to every YouTuber\/ beauty blogger possible.<\/p>\n

I know\u00a0the great quality<\/strong> of Anastasia Beverly Hills products (I am an absolute fan of their eyebrows products and their eyeshadows<\/a>), so when I came accross\u00a0the brand in my local Sephora in Mall Of The Emirates, it was a no-brainer decision. I had\u00a0to have them!<\/p>\n

What the brands says about them:<\/p>\n

Like a filter for your complexion, this brush-on highlighter contains a mosaic of brightening powders that impart a lit-from-within glow. The mirrored compact makes on-the-go touchups easy and fail-safe. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, the fact that they speak about touchups should\u00a0have been a red flag for me…<\/p>\n

The Illuminators are\u00a0highlighters<\/strong>. <\/em>This product is used to bring radiance<\/strong> to the complexion and catch\u00a0the light<\/strong> on some certains areas of the face in order to give youth and glow<\/strong> to the skin.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

I love to apply this type of product on the top of my cheekbones, in the inner corner of my eyes and also on my cupid bow (my upper lip). You can also apply a little bit on\u00a0the center of the face ( forehead, along the bridge of\u00a0the nose and the center of the chin) but with my oily skin that shines a lot naturally, it’s not the best\u00a0idea! wink<\/span> ).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Illuminators are available in 4 shades<\/strong>:
\n– Starlight<\/strong>, a white golden colour for fair skin tones,
\n– So Hollywood<\/strong>,\u00a0 a true gold for light to medium complexions,
\n– Peach Nectar<\/strong>, a golden apricot for medium to darker skin tones,
\n– Riviera<\/strong>, a rose gold for dark skin tones.<\/p>\n

So, I chose the 2 shades that\u00a0match my skin tone:\u00a0Starlight<\/strong>\u00a0and So Hollywood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Anastasia Beverly Hills\u00a0Illuminators, my test and thoughts:<\/h3>\n
\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

\u2013 Packaging: <\/strong>it’s a compact with mirror, super pretty and also practical. The shape of the pressed powder is very “art deco” inspired (think The Great Gatsby<\/a>) and absolutely stunning, it’s almost too good to use! Thankfully, the shape\u00a0doesn’t fade too quickly, you can enjoy it for a fair amount of\u00a0time.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Texture and\u00a0Finish: <\/strong>the\u00a0texture of the powder is quite\u00a0‘stiff’, if I can say so, so not as creamy as some other highlighters\u00a0like the Becca<\/a> ones for example… As a consequence, they’re not the easiest to blend.\u00a0Their metallic finish is super pretty though, very bright but without any glitter.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Color Range: <\/strong>pretty well done, because every skin color can find a match. I chose the two lighter\u00a0colors, Starlight<\/strong> (white gold) and So Hollywood<\/strong> (gold) but the other\u00a0two can also work for me, probably\u00a0more as blushes or blush toppers, why not?<\/p>\n

\u2013 Application:\u00a0<\/strong>I use the makeup brush of the Anastasia brand: the A23<\/a>, to apply them, which is perfect for this use (duh ;)\u00a0). But any precise and not too dense makeup brush can do the trick. Even a fan brush if you want a lighter application. As I said earlier, I don’t find the texture as blendable\u00a0as the other highlighters I own. I feel that\u00a0if I blend the product, I lose\u00a0a lot of intensity and I had to reapply a lot of product to achieve the result that I want…<\/p>\n

\u2013 Pigmentation: <\/strong>the two shades\u00a0have good pigmentation. Starlight is very intense and is very visible\u00a0on my skin, probably because it is lighter. So Hollywood blends\u00a0more in my skin tone. So usually, I use\u00a0Starlight for my night makeup looks or for the days I want this ‘full glam’ dramatic effect. So Hollywood is more natural, even if it is super luminous\u00a0(I think my definition of \u00a0a “natural” makeup may have evolved a little since I live in Dubai ah aha ha wink<\/span> ).<\/p>\n

\u2013 Lasting Power: <\/strong>and here is the big flaw. I found that the lasting power\u00a0of these 2 products is very disappointing. If I apply them in a normal amount, they completely disappear after 2 or 3 hours. If I apply\u00a0more on my skin, they last\u00a0a bit more\u00a0(4-5 hours) but the effect is not as pretty on the skin (it adds some texture on\u00a0the skin and it emphasizes my irregular skin). Compared to the other highlighters I own\u00a0and that I can apply in normal quantity, the lasting power difference is quite obvious… And for me, with regards\u00a0to\u00a0highlighters in general (the same thing goes for blushes), well\u00a0I want them to last\u00a0all day, I shouldn’t have to do some touch-ups after just a few hours. uneasy<\/span> <\/p>\n

\u2013 Value For Money:\u00a0<\/strong>it’s a good price ($28<\/strong>), especially when you compare to other high-end highlighters (Becca, Laura Mercier etc, they’re usually\u00a0around $40). But clearly, paying for something which doesn’t last on the skin is always\u00a0too much…<\/p>\n
