I literally couldn’t wait to try these Mac\u00a0Retro Matte liquid lipsticks<\/a>!<\/h2>\n

The least you\u00a0can say is that MAC took their\u00a0time, offering their\u00a0version of one of the most popular makeup products of\u00a0the moment: matte liquid lipsticks<\/strong>. So they were very highly expected!<\/p>\n

Personally, although I didn’t really talk\u00a0about it\u00a0here\u00a0(shame on me), I’m an absolute fan of \u00a0MAC lipsticks. You already know my obsession with their eyeshadows<\/a>? Well, with\u00a0their lipsticks from\u00a0the permanent collection, it’s almost the same! smile<\/span>
\nMoreover, MAC has probably the most beautiful nudes in the market and with their huge collection, everyone can find her (his)\u00a0perfect shade.<\/p>\n

So when I saw the color range of the new Retro Matte, I was quite disappointed…
\nEven if there are 15 colors available, which is quite a lot! But I don’t know, I found that the shades available\u00a0are nothing crazy<\/strong> and especially nothing very “trendy”.
\nAn example: at the moment, all cosmetic brands competing to offer THE lipstick color that everyone wants, which is,\u00a0always and once again, the famous “Kylie Jenner” colour<\/a>, a quite\u00a0intense\u00a0mauvy nude\u00a0brown, very matte, and inspired from the 90’s. The irony is that this famous color was a mix of different MAC products as stated by Kylie herself.
\nWell, believe it or not, not one dusty nude\/ Kylie Jenner lips color in the collection!
\nThe 3 nudes in the range are all very peachy or quite orange. Typically the kind of color that doesn’t suit me at all. sad<\/span> <\/p>\n

I absolutely wanted to purchase\u00a03 different\u00a0colors to get an idea of \u200b\u200bthe color range but really, I couldn’t find any pretty nude shade! uneasy<\/span>
\nAnd frankly, at $20 per lipstick<\/strong>, you really don’t want to mess up your order…<\/p>\n

So I finally got my hands\u00a0on Feels So Great<\/strong>, a sublime,almost neon red and Oh, Lady<\/strong>, which I hoped to be a plum but which looks like a\u00a0very dark purple on me.<\/p>\n

What the brand says about them:<\/p>\n

A lip colour that provides a splash of colour in a liquid-suede finish that lingers.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So this is a liquid lipstick<\/strong> kind of formula,\u00a0with a\u00a0high pigmentation\/coverage and a completely matte finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There are\u00a015 shades\u00a0<\/strong>in the range:<\/p>\n

– DivineDivine<\/strong>: a light pastel pink,
\n– Mademoiselle<\/strong>: a light pastel coral,
\n– LadyBeGood<\/strong>: a warm light nude beige,
\n– Back In Vogue<\/strong>: a light peachy nude,
\n– Rich & Restless<\/strong>: a salmon pink,
\n– Personal Statement<\/strong>: a true Barbie pink (a bright pink with cool undertones),
\n– To Mate With Love<\/strong>:\u00a0a bright raspberry pink
\n– Tailored To Tease<\/strong>: a true\u00a0fuchsia pink,
\n– Recollection<\/strong>: a bright purple,
\n– Quite The Standout<\/strong>: an orange red,
\n– Fashion Legacy<\/strong>: a true fire truck red,
\n– Feels So Grand<\/strong>: an intense true red,
\n– Dance With Me<\/strong>: a deep cranberry red,
\n– Oh, Lady<\/strong>: a dark wine\u00a0red,
\n– High Drama<\/strong>: a very dark plum.<\/p>\n

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks, my test and thoughts:<\/h3>\n
\"MAC<\/a><\/div>\n

–\u00a0Packaging: <\/strong>I heard\/read a lot of criticism about this packaging\u00a0but personally, I find it rather simple and elegant. It contains the codes of the brand, the cap is the same as for other MAC lipsticks, which makes perfect sense IMO.<\/p>\n

– Texture: <\/strong>very creamy while being quite liquid. It applies easily, without bleeding. They dry super fast on the lips.<\/p>\n

– Fini: <\/strong>it’s a completely matte finish, very\u00a0velvety. It’s super pretty!<\/p>\n

– Parfum: <\/strong>rather sweet, it smells slightly vanilla\u00a0like, but the scent doesn’t remain after application. The scent is very close to the Sephora Cream Lip Stain<\/a> for those who know them.<\/p>\n

– Pigmentation: <\/strong>I’m a little bit annoyed because the pigmentation is quite different for the 2 colors I own: Feels So Grand<\/strong>\u00a0has a great\u00a0pigmentation, it’s opaque and with a good coverage. Oh, Lady is not very homogeneous when you apply it\u00a0(as you will see on the swatch at the end of the post) so it requires at least two layers to\u00a0cover the lips, which impacts on its lasting power, because with a thick layer on the lips, it tends to crumble more.<\/p>\n

– Color Range:\u00a0<\/strong>I’ve already talked about it, I’m not the biggest\u00a0fan of the color range. OK, there’s a big\u00a0choice with 15 shades but I find that the range revolves too much around certain colors: 4 red shades, 4 pink\u00a0shades and 3 warm nudes. Not a single cooler nude, which I would have loved and honestly, who needs a salmon pink ??? (I’m not objective here, I hate this color and I have trouble imagining that it can look good on anyone) (feel free to show me the result on you if you love the shade, I’d be very curious to see it :D)<\/p>\n

Regarding the colors I purchased, it was not entirely a\u00a0success\u00a0(the joy of online shopping without being able to swatch the colors) (I couldn’t\u00a0see myself wait at least four months to see them\u00a0in store in Dubai).
\nFeels So Grand<\/strong> is a sumptuous true red, it’s probably one of the most beautiful mat red of my collection (and since I love red lipsticks, it says\u00a0something wink<\/span> ): not too orange or too pink, it’s stunning!
\nFor Oh, Lady<\/strong>\u00a0however, I totally messed up in my choice and\u00a0I’m quite\u00a0disappointed. I was expecting a pinkish dark plum (I actually hesitated a lot with To Mate With Love) and also not as\u00a0dark but it darkens a lot when it dries.\u00a0On me, it looks like a\u00a0dark purple and I don’t like… sad<\/span> <\/p>\n

\"MAC<\/a>\"MAC<\/a><\/div>\n

– Application: <\/strong>a\u00a0<\/strong>liquidy, but creamy texture that allows an easy application and the applicator is very well done, quite\u00a0precise, allowing\u00a0to draw sharp contours easily. Don’t\u00a0over load it with the product though, because\u00a0it may bleed.<\/p>\n

– Comfort:\u00a0<\/strong>bad surprise, it’s\u00a0a very drying formula. Not as drying\u00a0as the\u00a0ColourPop Ultra Matte\u00a0liquid lipsticks<\/a>\u00a0but close. They dry very quickly after application on the lips and leave\u00a0a very very matte finish. I guess that’s why they aren’t comfortable. I noticed that the formulas which remain a little sticky on the lips (like the Dose Of Colors<\/a> for example)\u00a0are usually\u00a0more comfortable.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Lasting Power:\u00a0<\/strong>here neither, I wasn’t\u00a0convinced. First thing, even if it’s completely dry on the lips, it’s not 100% non-transfer nor totally waterproof. So soon as you\u00a0eat or drink, the inside of the lips disappears. And after about 3-4 hours, even if you are super careful and\u00a0only drink\u00a0with a\u00a0straw for example, it would disappear anyway. I especially had this problem with Oh, Lady and I think it’s because I have to layer 2 coats\u00a0to obtain a consistent\u00a0result on the lips, which in turn probably\u00a0negatively impacts\u00a0its lasting power.
\nHowever, one good thing is that it’s very easy to do\u00a0touch-ups, you can easily layer it\u00a0(unlike other formulas that crumble when you\u00a0retouch them, like the Colourpop<\/a> ones for example).<\/p>\n

– Value For Money: <\/strong>they’re sold\u00a0$20<\/strong>\u00a0and honestly, I don’t think they\u00a0worth it. Let’s say that I expected a better formula and also a better choice of colors for MAC, especially when\u00a0they took their time to provide their own version of matte liquid lipsticks. I really hope they will improve\u00a0their formula and widen their range of colors.<\/p>\n
