I admit, I kind of took my time a little to tell you more about my\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills Velvet and Ultra-Matte<\/a>\u00a0eyeshadow palette…<\/h2>\n

But I really wanted to be sure to choose my favorite\u00a0eyeshadow from the range, the\u00a0best of the best. And also, for this kind of review, I like to test different makeup looks to see all the different possibilities, in short: to\u00a0get to know my products the best I can.<\/p>\n

Guide to the different Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows finishes:<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows range contains 8 different finishes that can be used usually together to give dimension to the eye makeup look.<\/p>\n

- Ultra-Matte<\/strong>: a matte finish formula not\u00a0powdery or chalky at all on the eyelids, very pigmented and easy to blend,
\n- Velvet<\/strong>: a matte,\u00a0semi-matte or slightly iridescent finish\u00a0depending on the shades. They're extremely easy to blend, the texture is super soft and lightweight\u00a0on the eyelids,
\n- Titanium<\/strong>: a very metallic and ultra-shiny\u00a0finish, like liquid metal. They can be used dry or wet\u00a0if you want more intensity,
\n- Satin<\/strong>: a\u00a0satin and luminous finish, very pigmented and easy to blend,
\n- Metallic<\/strong>: a metallic finish, luminous\u00a0but less glittery than the Titanium,
\n- Duo-Chrome<\/strong>: an iridescent finish, with several shades in one,
\n- Shimmer<\/strong>: a satin finish with very fine glitter in it,
\n- Sparkle<\/strong>: a matte base with\u00a0glitter.<\/p>\n

Here\u00a0is a picture\u00a0that helps to understand how to combine the different finishes:<\/p>\n

\nBasically, you can use:
\n- as a transition shade<\/strong>,\u00a0in the crease: the\u00a0Velvet, Ultra-Matte and Satin finishes,
\n- on the eyelid<\/strong>: every\u00a0finishes works,
\n- to catch the light<\/strong> on the center of the eyelid: the\u00a0Satin, Velvet, Titanium, Metallic, Duo-Chrome and Shimmer finishes,
\n- as a\u00a0liner<\/strong>, along the lash line: the\u00a0Ultra-Matte, Sparkle,\u00a0Titanium, Metallic, Duo-Chrome and\u00a0Shimmer finishes.<\/p>\n

Obviously, the choice of colors is also very important. For example, it's better to\u00a0use\u00a0a darker color as\u00a0a liner.<\/p>\n

There are different finishes in the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows range and the Ultra Matte and the Velvet<\/strong> finishes\u00a0(in that order) are by far my favorites.
\nYou’ll probably take me for an amateur, but I only discovered the importance of matte eyeshadows (relatively) recently. I’m not a makeup artist even if\u00a0I learned the basics of makeup when I was in my beauty school. But a), it was a long time ago (15 years) (OMG!!!) and b), my teachers were not makeup artists (ahem).
\nI’ve always used a flesh color matte eyeshadow as a base for my eye makeup, but until 2 years ago, the existence of the transition shade\u00a0was totally unknown to me.<\/p>\n

And recently, I began to appreciate more and more 100% matte eye makeup.
\nI’m still not totally convinced by the contouring\u00a0trend for the face but I love to use the same\u00a0principles to do my eye makeup. This kind of “eyelids contouring<\/strong>” so to speak, allows me to\u00a0give a lot of\u00a0dimension to my eye.
\nBasically, I’m using some light shades<\/strong> (or luminous finishes) where I want to catch the light<\/strong>: inner corner of the eye, under the brow bone and the center\u00a0of the eyelid.
\nAnd I apply\u00a0darker colors<\/strong> to give depth<\/strong> to the look: in the crease, the outer corner and along the eyelashes.<\/p>\n

So a few months ago, I was on the hunt for\u00a0beautiful matte eyeshadows<\/strong> that would allow me to realize this type of makeup. I came across\u00a0the Anastasia Beverly Hills\u00a0range of single\u00a0eyeshadows that were recently released\u00a0(they were released in November 2014).
\nAnd I think it’s probably the best choice of neutrals matte eyeshadows in the market<\/strong>: easy colors to wear, a very wide choice of beautiful colors, they’re stunning!<\/p>\n

What the brand said about them:<\/p>\n

This finely-milled, highly-pigmented powder eye shadow is available in eighty-four hues and eight finishes for maximum versatility.
\nCreate a custom palette with kits that holds four to eight pans of your favorite colors and textures.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

They are magnetic “pans” that can be placed in a Z-Palette type of palette if you purchase them separately (Anastasia Beverly Hills offers palettes too, but they are smaller, they contain only 4 to 8 eyeshadows).
\nOn the photo above, it’s a black Z-Palette Medium<\/a> which contains 15 eyeshadows.<\/p>\n

Ultra-Matte and Velvet are my favorite Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow finishes\u00a0but regardless,\u00a0my goal in creating this palette was to create a palette that I could use in combination with my other luminous eyeshadows.<\/p>\n

I wanted to have in this palette:
\n– some base<\/strong> eyeshadows, to apply all over the lid to unify it,
\n– different transition shades<\/strong> to match with\u00a0all my makeup looks,
\n– and finally, darker eyeshadows to serve as darker transition\u00a0shades<\/strong> or to define<\/strong> the\u00a0outer corner and to use as liners<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I think I’ve already explained the role of a transition shade\u00a0here but just in case, a little reminder<\/strong> ;):
\nA transition\u00a0shade\u00a0will simply serve as a link between two colors<\/strong> to give the illusion that there is no demarcation between them, and that the final\u00a0result is well blended<\/strong>, more “natural”.
\nIt’s a bit of a cheat technique because you\u00a0can also\u00a0blend the shades directly together, but the addition of a transition shade makes the process so much easier and quicker. So why not use it? wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

Most of the eyeshadows\u00a0which are in this palette are Ultra-Matte<\/strong> ones\u00a0except Dusty Rose<\/strong>, which is a Velvet<\/strong>, but its finish is matte.<\/p>\n

Anastasia Beverly Hills Velvet & Ultra-Matte eyeshadows, the colors and the\u00a0swatches:<\/h3>\n

The first row of my palette consists mainly of light flesh tone\u00a0eyeshadows, which I use as base<\/strong> to apply all over the lid and also matte\u00a0highlighters<\/strong> to illuminate the areas where I want to catch the light (the inner corner of the eye and the brow bone) and also one eyeshadow I use as a makeup “erasers<\/strong>” to correct any smudge.
\nDisclaimer: I’m not sure you\u00a0ever need that much light\u00a0nude eyeshadows\u00a0in a palette, I’m just obsessed about them lol!<\/p>\n

– Bone: <\/strong>a white beige\u00a0eyeshadow, slightly gray. It’s the one which I use as an eraser: as it’s very light, it can “absorb”\u00a0darker colors.<\/p>\n

– Fresh: <\/strong>a light\u00a0pinky nude eyeshadow that I use very often as a base especially in winter, when the my skin looks cooler. It brightens and freshens the eyes!<\/p>\n

– Cream:\u00a0<\/strong>a another nude\u00a0with a very light peachy undertone\u00a0that I love to use alone or mixed with Fresh. I also use it as a base, and it’s very luminous!<\/p>\n

– Nude:\u00a0<\/strong>a little bit\u00a0darker than Cream, but still\u00a0in the same fair nude\u00a0tones. This one can be used as a\u00a0base if I have a tan\u00a0or even be used as a very light\u00a0transition shade.<\/p>\n

– Soft Peach:<\/strong>\u00a0a beautiful light transition shade, it’s a very very light\u00a0orange shade. I love using it\u00a0with light colors like beige, gold…<\/p>\n

\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

The second row is\u00a0essentially transition shades<\/strong>. I chose the colors according to my favorite eye makeup shades. I usually stick to\u00a0neutral colors, warm (beige, brown, gold, orange, khaki brown) or cool\u00a0(taupe, pink, plum, violet).<\/p>\n

– Day Rate:\u00a0<\/strong>a very light dusty pink (slightly grey), such a great transition shade with a pink and\/or purple makeup look.<\/p>\n

– Dusty Rose: <\/strong>a\u00a0must-have,\u00a0it’s a beautiful dusty pink color. I use it mainly as a\u00a0transition shade for my darker makeup looks\u00a0or I even use it alone in the crease\u00a0with a shimmery pink champagne\u00a0(like MAC Jest<\/a> for example). It literally blends like a dream, no fall out, I love it!<\/p>\n

– Birkin:\u00a0<\/strong>with Dusty Rose, it’s my favorite ABH\u00a0transition shade. This is a very light brown beige, with light\u00a0peach undertones. It goes with absolutely every makeup look. I use it almost every other day! If you choose only one transition shade\u00a0from the brand and you have the same skin tone as me, you need a Birkin! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Warm Taupe:\u00a0<\/strong>a darker shade, it’s a beige brown color, slightly taupe.<\/p>\n

– Fawn:\u00a0<\/strong>a super pretty ochre, but not too yellow\u00a0(I look sick when it’s yellow).\u00a0This shade is perfect with dark makeup looks.<\/p>\n

\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

The last row includes darker transition shades<\/strong>\u00a0and definition colors that I usually applied on the\u00a0outer corner<\/strong>, or that I use as\u00a0liner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

– Burnt Orange Matte: <\/strong>an orange shade\u00a0with a light ochre undertone, perfect as transition shade for\u00a0very intense and dark smokey eyes or even used by itself on the entire eyelid.<\/p>\n

– Sienna:\u00a0<\/strong>a sublime rusty orange shade. I use this one for everything: in the crease, the\u00a0outer\u00a0corner, on the entire eyelid, along the eyelashes… I love it!<\/p>\n

– Red Earth: <\/strong>a beautiful warm brown, perfect to intensify the outer corner.<\/p>\n

– Hot Chocolate: <\/strong>a true brown chocolate that I use on the outer corner or along the eyelashes, as a liner.<\/p>\n

– Deep Plum:\u00a0<\/strong>a beautiful plummy brown, that I also use on the outer corner or along the eyelashes, as a liner.<\/p>\n

\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

Anastasia Beverly Hills Velvet & Ultra-Matte eyeshadows, my test and thoughts:<\/h3>\n
\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

– Color Range: <\/strong>one of the best on the market in my opinion, especially for neutral matte shades. Such\u00a0a great choice\u00a0of shades and the colors are to die for.<\/p>\n

– Pigmentation and Coverage: <\/strong>perfect,\u00a0they are very pigmented and have a great coverage, no need for 36 layers to get\u00a0a nice color on your eyelids.<\/p>\n

– Texture:\u00a0<\/strong>they blend like a dream, they’re really easy to work with, and with\u00a0almost no fall out\u00a0(it’s pretty rare for matte eyeshadows).<\/p>\n

– Finish:\u00a0<\/strong>the finish is of course very matte, but a nice luminous matte, not chalky at all.<\/p>\n

– Lasting Power:\u00a0<\/strong>they last\u00a010 hours\u00a0with an eyeprimer (I always use a primer because I have oily eyelids).<\/p>\n

– Value For Money:\u00a0<\/strong>the price is\u00a0$12 dollars<\/strong> per pan\u00a0on\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills<\/a>\u00a0website (not cheap\u00a0but still cheaper than MAC to give you an idea). However there is a very advantageous system in the Anastasia Beverly Hills website: the bundles<\/strong>. Basically, if you take 4<\/strong>\u00a0eyeshadows, the price automatically drops to $40 with, as a gift, \u00a0a free empty eyeshadow palette\u00a0($10 per eyeshadow<\/strong>), and if you purchase\u00a08<\/strong> shades, the price is $70 plus a free empty eyeshadow palette ($8.75 per eyeshadow<\/strong>). This system is so cool and allows much better deals! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Availability:\u00a0<\/strong>for now, you need to place an\u00a0online order on the\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills<\/a>\u00a0website and the shipping costs depends on the place you live.\u00a0But the delivery is worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For this\u00a0look, I’m wearing\u00a0Fresh<\/strong>\u00a0all over the eyelid, Day Rate<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Dusty Rose<\/strong>\u00a0in the crease, Warm Taupe<\/strong>\u00a0along the lower lash line\u00a0and\u00a0Deep Plum<\/strong>\u00a0in the outer corner. I used a\u00a0Inglot black eyeliner gel<\/a>\u00a0and my\u00a0mascara is Le Volume waterproof de CHANEL<\/a>.
\nMy liquid lipstick is by Anastasia Beverly Hills<\/a>\u00a0in the shade\u00a0Dusty Rose.<\/p>\n

My favorite simple everyday look: Fresh<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Cream<\/strong> mixed all over the eyelid, Nude<\/strong>\u00a0on the eyelid, Soft Peach<\/strong> and\u00a0Birkin<\/strong>\u00a0in the crease and a\u00a0Charlotte Tilbury eyeliner pencil in the shade Bedroom Black<\/a>\u00a0smoked and blended. My mascara here is still the one one by\u00a0CHANEL.
\nAnother liquid lipstick by\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills<\/a>\u00a0in the shade Veronica.<\/p>\n

For me, these ABH matte eyeshadows are now must-haves, I’m using them so often\u00a0(especially the light ones) and I love pairing them\u00a0with my other shimmery eyeshadows. This palette has become one of my fave. Hooray for\u00a0matte eyeshadows! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n
