A tinted moisturizer which\u00a0keeps its\u00a0cards well hidden… Here’s my review of the new\u00a0NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint SPF 30\/PA+++<\/a>.<\/h2>\n

When the temperatures begin to seriously climb over here\u00a0(yep, summer is definitely here in Dubai!), I like to lighten the texture of my foundation. And if in addition, it contains a high UV protection and I don’t have to layer too many products on my skin in the morning, it’s perfect. With this heat,\u00a0you really appreciate a good 2-in-1 product! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

A\u00a0few years ago in France, I discovered the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30\/PA+++<\/a> and it was one of my favorite\u00a0products for warmer\u00a0days.
\nIt’s an oil-free formula that was perfect for\u00a0my skin type and the French summer temperatures, but since I have been living in Dubai, I need\u00a0to use a product that is more heat resistant and also waterproof because it’s also super humid over here\u00a0(heat and humidity aka the makeup killer combo).<\/p>\n

When I saw that NARS launched another tinted moisturizer,\u00a0more matifying<\/strong>, I knew\u00a0that I had to try it and make the\u00a0ultimate\u00a0crash test during\u00a0Dubai’s summer! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

What the brand says about it:<\/p>\n

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint SPF 30\/PA+++\u00a0is a UV protective matifying tinted moisturizer<\/strong>, specifically aimed\u00a0for combination to oily skin<\/strong>. Although it’s supposed to be a tinted moisturizer, the coverage is quite strong<\/strong>, it’s not sheer\u00a0at all.<\/p>\n

The texture is quite specific, very rich in silicones, and it really glides on\u00a0the skin and leaves a matte finish<\/strong> but not powdery, more velvet-like<\/strong>.
\nThe matte effect is not dull at all and it’s quite luminous<\/strong> thanks to\u00a0the soft focus effect powders that help to even out the skin tone and blur the pores. It’s an oil-free formula<\/strong>, so it’s perfect\u00a0for combination to oily skin.<\/p>\n

It’s also supposed to be\u00a0long lasting<\/strong>, which is always nice especially here, where the temperature already exceeds 40 degrees.<\/p>\n

– Formula:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The brand speaks about\u00a0a UV protective<\/strong> formula with SPF 30 and PA +++<\/strong> but also some antioxydant vitamins A and E<\/strong> to fight\u00a0the damages\u00a0of pollution on the skin. It’s always good to have an extra dose of protection and also, I don’t\u00a0use my daily UV\u00a0protection<\/a> when I apply this tinted moisturizer\u00a0because\u00a0I feel sufficiently\u00a0protected (and also, you know… #lazy).
\nIt’s supposed to be matifying<\/strong> with some pink fruit extracts<\/strong> to minimize pores and control the shine. I didn’t\u00a0really notice any effect on the size of my pores to be honest but it’s true that I don’t\u00a0need to touch-up too much with powder during\u00a0the day. The matte finish\u00a0lasts pretty well on my skin!<\/p>\n

– Color range:<\/strong><\/p>\n

12 shades<\/strong>\u00a0from the lightest to the darkest. As often with NARS, there is a wide\u00a0choice. I own\u00a0the shade Alaska (light 2), a neutral beige with a yellow undertone, and it’s good match for my skin tone (I am a NC20-25 in MAC).<\/p>\n

– Scent:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The formula is scented<\/strong>, a rather pleasant scent, not too overpowering and it doesn’t last after the application.<\/p>\n

– Packaging:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I love this 50ml tube<\/strong>, I find it so convenient! It’s super easy to travel with, it’s the one I took with me during my recent trips to Europe. However, I’m not\u00a0a fan of its typical NARS\u00a0rubberized finish, such a\u00a0dust\/ dirt catcher. It gets messy and dirty so easily… uneasy<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Application:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s really super easy to apply! Well at least,\u00a0if you use the proper technique<\/strong>…
\nNARS used soft focus blurring powders in the formula. The spherical shape of these powders compress like a cushion, and gives this plumping<\/strong> texture when you apply it, especially when you use your fingertips.
\nThe brand strongly recommends using your fingertips for the application<\/strong> because the texture needs to be slightly warmed to completely blend into\u00a0the skin. I tried an application with a brush or a Beauty Blender and I wasn’t convinced by the result, I could see that\u00a0the product was emphasizing my flaws. But when applied with\u00a0the fingertips, it blends\u00a0completely for a true second skin effect.
\nUsually, I start by\u00a0quickly spreading it on my face and I just press the product with\u00a0my fingertips<\/strong>\u00a0to blend it\u00a0into my skin.
\nQuantity wise, I usually use 1 small drop of product<\/strong>. No need to put too much, the coverage is really enough with a small amount of\u00a0product and if you apply too much, it tends to be more visible on the skin, and you don’t want that!<\/p>\n

– Pigmentation and coverage: <\/strong><\/p>\n

It has a medium to high coverage<\/strong>, which is very surprising for a tinted moisturizer. It looks more like a real foundation to me…<\/p>\n

– Finish:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The finish\u00a0is very nice and natural. It’s a luminous\u00a0matte finish<\/strong>, and it really blurs the pores. However, I don’t think it’s super suitable for dry or dehydrated skin. It tends to emphasize the dry patches.
\nIt’s very lightweight<\/strong>, you barely\u00a0feel it, it’s quite\u00a0imperceptible. Perfect for summer! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Lasting power:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lasting power\u00a0is pretty good<\/strong>. After a few hours, it gets a little shiny\u00a0in some areas, obviously, but I still would describe it as a\u00a0long lasting product.
\nAlso, because my skin is oily, I still need to set it\u00a0with a loose powder<\/a>, despite its matte finish but I don’t\u00a0think it’s absolutely mandatory, especially for combination skin. It’s just that I’m used to it! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Value for money: <\/strong><\/p>\n

The price is pretty average for this kind of brand\u00a0($44<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

As\u00a0you can see above\u00a0in the pictures, it’s quite creamy at first but it blends on the skin very easily. The color appears a little too yellow on my forearm but it matches my skin\u00a0well on the\u00a0face, I swear! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

Yeah so sorry, I should have warned you because it’s a little scary.
\nSo on the first picture on the left, there is nothing on my skin (apart from my pores, my dark circles\u00a0and my pimples) and on the second photo on the right, there is only\u00a0the NARS Velvet Matte tinted cream Skin Tint SPF 30 \/ PA +++.
\nYou can enlarge the image by clicking on it if you want to see the details (but I beg you not to do it, I don’t really assume my huge pores and my nasty zits).<\/p>\n

GOD BLESS MAKEUP! Seriously! So, here is the result with a full face of makeup.
\nOn my lips, it’s one of my favorite lipstick of all time (it’s in my top 10) (no idea which lipsticks are in my top 10, I’m not able to choose between all my lipsticks but I just know it\u00a0has to be\u00a0in it): Fanfare by MAC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So, in summary:<\/h3>\n

This is a good protective tinted moisturizer<\/strong>, which is almost as opaque as a foundation while remaining super\u00a0lightweight on the skin. But\u00a0I really think that you need to have a combination to oily skin to fully appreciate this product.<\/p>\n
