Aaah summer, the sun and its beautiful golden light, palm trees, the beach… For some, it’s all year round\u00a0(don’t hate me, please! Next month, it will be boiling\u00a0hot and I won’t be able to stay outside for more than 2 minutes) and for others, it will take a little more\u00a0effort to pretend\u00a0that the sun is here everyday.
\nLet’s pretend it’s summer already\u00a0with two products from the collection\u00a0Urban Decay Summer\u00a02016<\/a>: the\u00a0Beached Bronzer<\/a> and the\u00a0Afterglow Highlighter<\/a>.<\/h2>\n

Clearly, the packaging of these two products was designed to be Instagram-friendly,<\/strong>\u00a0especially the Beached Bronzer (actually, this one really looks like an Instagram picture itself). It’s so cute and summery!<\/p>\n

I’m not a fan of contouring, you know it, but I love\u00a0the\u00a0bronzer\u00a0+ highlighter combo<\/strong> to compensate for the fact that I rarely go sunbathing\u00a0(fun fact: here in Dubai, everyone has a vitamin D deficiency because nobody sunbaths voluntarily) ( well, except for the British, the tourists and the newly arrived expats, the unconscious, they don’t know! tongue<\/span> ).
\nIt’s better and\u00a0safer with makeup IMO, plus it gives me an excuse to buy more makeup, as if I needed one…<\/p>\n

Beached Bronzer Sun-Kissed, presentation:<\/h3>\n

Beached Bronzer<\/strong> is a matte bronzer which comes in 2 different shades: Sun-Kissed<\/strong> for lighter\u00a0skin tones and Bronzed<\/strong> for darker skin tones.
\nThe brand talks about\u00a0a HPP technology (Highlighter Performing Pigments) that can give the skin a very luminous effect without containing any glitter or shimmer. I couldn’t\u00a0find more information on this technology (apparently exclusive to the Urban Decay brand), but I guess that it’s something like\u00a0soft-focus pigments<\/strong> which can\u00a0diffuse the\u00a0light. This kind of technology is becoming quite common in the makeup industry.<\/p>\n

I chose the shade Sun-Kissed<\/strong>\u00a0as the other seemed a bit too dark for my skin tone.<\/p>\n

Beached Bronzer Sun-Kissed, my test and thoughts:<\/h3>\n

– Color range:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

2 colors; it’s a bit short<\/strong> in my opinion… I’m not sure that the darker skin tones can really find something for themselves in this range.<\/p>\n

To be honest, the first time I saw the shade Sun-Kissed, I was not sure at all that it would suit me. The color\u00a0seemed oddly red, almost pink<\/strong>\u00a0and I usually prefer the\u00a0beige or honey kind of shades for my\u00a0bronzers,\u00a0so\u00a0I was not convinced at all…
\nAnd then I tried it and I really loved the effect on my skin! Sun-Kissed warms the skin<\/strong> without being\u00a0orange and with a very\u00a0fresh effect<\/strong>. I really like it!<\/p>\n

– Packaging:<\/strong><\/p>\n

This compact is super cute<\/strong>, isn’t it? Welcome to episode 32512654 of “I bought it \u00a0just for its packaging”! smile<\/span>
\nThis is a round plastic compact, with palm trees on top and a rose\u00a0gold metallic effect at the bottom. It contains a mirror which is super handy. As you probably have understood, I like it a lot!<\/p>\n

– Texture:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Urban Decay describes\u00a0a fine and creamy texture<\/strong>, and it’s true, it feels like\u00a0a new generation powder texture, silky without being too powdery and very easy to apply with a brush.<\/p>\n

– Application:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some bronzers are hybrid products, they can be used both as a bronzer and a\u00a0contouring product.
\nHere, it’s not the case: it’s a pure powder bronzer<\/strong> so I applied it on my face in halo with the 3 or E technique (starting at the hair roots, on the outside edges, and onto the temples past the middle of the cheeks, from outside to inside, then down to the jaw bone, and on the sides of the neck).<\/p>\n

I use a big fluffy bronzer\u00a0brush<\/strong> to really diffuse the product on the skin. You don’t really want to sculpt the cheeks here\u00a0as you would for contouring, but more to warm up\u00a0the face, like a sun-kissed effect.<\/p>\n

My favorite bronzer brush: the\u00a0Bronzer Brush by Bobbi Brown<\/a>, and I also like the\u00a0ZOEVA Luxe Grand Powder n\u00b090<\/a> (a little less soft\u00a0than the Bobbi Brown but it’s also half the price) .<\/p>\n

\"Urban<\/a><\/div>\n

– Pigmentation:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A perfect pigmentation for this type of product: enough to make a difference on the skin and to warm the complexion but not enough to make a blotchy mess impossible to blend on the skin (I’ve been there, done that). It really blends like a dream, it’s such a simple product to use!<\/p>\n

– Finish:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s a\u00a0matte luminous<\/strong> finish,\u00a0not muddy at all.<\/p>\n

– Lasting power:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It lasts pretty well on me, around 8 to 10h<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

– Value for money:<\/strong><\/p>\n

For me, it’s a good value for money. It retails for $28<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter Sin, presentation:<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0Afterglow \u00a0Highlighter is a very luminous powder highlighter<\/strong>, almost metallic<\/strong> but without being glittery (I hate glitters in highlighters). It’s available in 3 shades: Sin, Aura et Fireball.<\/p>\n

I chose\u00a0Sin<\/strong> because it’s the most neutral of the 3 and also the more wearable.<\/p>\n

Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter Sin, my test and thoughts:<\/h3>\n
\"Urban<\/a><\/div>\n

– Color range:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I bought it online. So before seeing it’s true color, I stupidly\u00a0thought that its color\u00a0was like the Sin\u00a0eyeshadow<\/a>, also by Urban Decay Sin. Sin eyeshadow is one of my favorite Urban Decay colors (probably one of my favorite eyeshadows ever). It’s a stunning light slightly pink Champagne super luminous, which I use very often as an inner corner highlighter.<\/p>\n

The Afterglow Highlighter Sin for the face is much less pink and more golden<\/strong>. It’s indeed a very easy color to wear<\/strong>, and will look good on\u00a0all skin tones, I think. I like it but I kinda\u00a0regret the pink undertone\u00a0which\u00a0is in the eyeshadow, because at the moment, I’m obsessed with pink!\u00a0(I don’t really know why, maybe because it’s springtime… smile<\/span> )
\nThe 2 other colors, Aura<\/strong> and Fireball<\/strong> are too colorful for me as highlighters. Aura is very pink with cool\u00a0undertones, almost lilac\u00a0and Fireball is a peachy, almost\u00a0orange shade (it will look gorgeous on black skin, I’m sure though!).<\/p>\n

– Packaging:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nice but nothing exceptional. It’s a square compact\u00a0in a metallic silver plastic with the logo of the brand on top, which is transparent. I like the fact that you can see the colour inside though, it’s smart! I think I liked the outside packaging more: it’s\u00a0pink and metallic (this pink obsession is no joke, I told you\u00a0:P ).
\nBut I must admit that I also like its magnetic closure…<\/p>\n

– Texture:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I expected something more creamy given\u00a0the description made\u00a0by the brand… Clearly, Urban Decay never tried Becca highlighters or even Mary-Lou Manizer by The Balm, which are much more creamy in texture. This one is almost stiff<\/strong>\u00a0in comparison.
\nHowever, the powder of Afterglow Highlighter is very finely milled<\/strong> and it’s not too powdery, which is a plus.<\/p>\n

– Application:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s very easy to apply with a highlighter brush, like the\u00a0M501 by Morphe<\/a>\u00a0for example. It’s very easy to blend as well and it’s quite buildable<\/strong>:\u00a0very intense or more subtle depending on how many layers you apply.<\/p>\n

\"Urban<\/a><\/div>\n

– Pigmentation:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pretty good<\/strong> although I find it less intense than some of the other highlighters I own (such as the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit<\/a>\u00a0or those by\u00a0Becca<\/a> for example which are also creamier in texture). The Afterglow Highlighter\u00a0is quite subtle <\/strong>but still very luminous<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

– Finish:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Luminous and metallic<\/strong>\u00a0without glitter, perfection!<\/p>\n

– Lasting power:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The brand says it lasts\u00a08h\u00a0and on me, it\u00a0actually lasts 8\u00a0to\u00a010 hours<\/strong>\u00a0if it’s not too humid outside. So it has a good lasting power<\/strong> indeed.<\/p>\n

– Value for money:<\/strong><\/p>\n

For me, it’s a good value for money<\/strong>. It retails for $29.<\/p>\n

Finally, here are the swatches:<\/h3>\n

I also wanted to compare with some other bronzers and highlighters in\u00a0my collection because I thought it might be useful to see the difference between\u00a0the shades of these products.<\/p>\n

As you can see in the photos, the Beached Bronzer is slightly more “red”<\/strong> than the other bronzers in my collection. However, it doesn’t at all transfer\u00a0orange on my skin, it’s really a very natural bronzer and it has this “fresh” effect I really like.<\/p>\n

\"Urban<\/a><\/div>\n

To be honest, the Afterglow Highlighter by Urban Decay and Mary-Lou Manizer by The Balm are really close in\u00a0color<\/strong>. But the texture and finish are different though:\u00a0Mary-Lou Manizer is more intense and creamy than Sin.
\nSo it all depends on the effect you want in a highlighter: if you’re looking for something subtle, Sin is perfect because it’s buildable\u00a0and if you want a more intense effect, Mary-Lou Manizer by\u00a0The Balm<\/a> is your best friend. wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

And on me:<\/h3>\n

As usual, you can barely see anything\u00a0on my photos but I swear I’m wearing a bronzer! (if I don’t, I look sick, see my scary photo in my last post about\u00a0the NARS tinted moisturizer<\/a>) And also, I wear a very pink blush on these photos, I assure you it’s not my bronzer which gives me those super pinky cheeks! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

The rest of my makeup (a lot of new products, I guess it means a lot of reviews to come wink<\/span> ):
\n– on my eyes, the\u00a0Theory \u00a0palette by Viseart in\u00a0Cashmere<\/a>\u00a0and the mascara Legendary Lashes by Charlotte Tilbury<\/a>,
\n– on my cheeks: the\u00a0Luminous Blush Camellia by\u00a0Becca<\/a>,
\n– on my lips: the\u00a0Amuse Bouche Sorbet lipstick by Bite Beauty<\/a> (I told \u00a0you<\/a> I would order more of them\u00a0;) )<\/p>\n

So in summary:<\/h3>\n

These are two very good makeup products<\/strong> that are very easy to use on a daily basis. I have a slight preference for the bronzer because\u00a0I really like the color (against all odds!). Although I like it\u00a0too, I find the highlighter has a less unique shade and you can easily find some dupes\u00a0in other brands.<\/p>\n

The Beached Bronzer\u00a0<\/strong>is available on the Urban Decay website<\/a> and also in Sephora<\/a>. The price is $28.<\/p>\n
