I haven’t been this excited about an eyeshadow palette for\u00a0a very long time! The\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette<\/a>\u00a0is absolutely stunning and it deserves all the raving reviews it gets!<\/h2>\n

Well, I guess I just killed the suspense with that intro but, I think you already know it\u00a0if you’re reading my blog regularly, but I’m usually pretty critical so\u00a0I really enjoy being genuinely obsessed by a beauty product! bigsmile<\/span> <\/p>\n

The\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance<\/strong>\u00a0palette<\/strong>\u00a0is, as its name (and the names of the eyeshadows) suggests, inspired by the Renaissance painting<\/strong>. The name of the eyeshadows refer to some pigments used during this time, but also painting techniques or famous Renaissance painters.<\/p>\n

The Renaissance<\/strong> was a great period of cultural revival<\/strong> that occurred in Europe during\u00a0the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, in the field of ideas, literature, arts and sciences, but also with\u00a0the economy and social side of things, and that created a shock wave in the religious and political spheres. This period is associated with the rediscovery of literature, philosophy and science of antiquity, and a starting point was\u00a0the Italian Renaissance<\/strong>. Italy was indeed the central point of this movement and you can really feel\u00a0it has inspired the Anastasia Beverly Hills brand, be it\u00a0in the choice of colors<\/strong>\u00a0or the names of the eyeshadows<\/strong>.
\nThe colors of this palette make\u00a0me think about the sublime Italian cities (Florence, Siena, Arezzo, aka Tuscany<3 heart<\/span> <3) with all this harmony of reds, oranges, dark pinks, browns and ochre\u00a0colours<\/strong>. These cities were often used as background for the beautiful\u00a0Renaissance paintings but I was lucky enough\u00a0to visit them for real and I can assure you that the colors are as stunning\u00a0in real life\u00a0that they are in the painting! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

But still, even if I find these colors super beautiful<\/strong>, as soon as I received it, the first thing I wondered was\u00a0if these colors were wearable<\/strong>\u00a0with a fair\u00a0complexion like mine.
\nOn medium, golden, dark skin, no worries, these shades work perfectly! But on a light\u00a0skin, I had some doubts…
\nWell, not anymore! smile<\/span> <\/p>\n

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette,\u00a0presentation:<\/h3>\n

What the brands says about it:<\/p>\n

“An essential eye shadow collection featuring 14 shades, including neutral and berry tones. Use Anastasia Beverly Hills first permanent palette, Modern Renaissance to create endless looks for daytime and evening.

Seeing the palette\u00a0for the first time, I thought it was composed mostly of warm eyeshadows but when I actually started to use them, I realized that a lot of them were actually quite neutral and\u00a0even with cool undertones. This palette conceal its hand nicely<\/strong>! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

Most colors are new and exclusive<\/strong> to this palette but 3 of them are already available in single format\u00a0(Burnt Orange, Buon Fresco and Warm Taupe) (I own these 3 eyeshadows already<\/a>\u00a0and I love them!).<\/p>\n

So there\u00a0are lots of ochre and red tones, and although the brand speaks of a Renaissance inspiration,\u00a0it makes me think of the\u00a0colors of 90’s makeup<\/a>.
\nAnd well, it’s been at least 2 years that 90’s\u00a0makeup has been making\u00a0a comeback! Until now, I have mostly seen it on the lips<\/a> and\u00a0that’s it, but now it also influences\u00a0eye makeup, apparently!
\nI must admit\u00a0that the first time I did a ochre eye makeup look with this palette, I wondered where my choker necklace was from back in the days! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

In my opinion, the Modern Renaissance palette is not a palette for those who want a\u00a0neutral make-up for every day. This palette wouldn’t necessarily be the one I would take with me on holidays, for example (I love my simple neutral boring makeup looks when I’m away lol).
\nHowever, if you passionately love makeup<\/strong> and you want a trendy<\/strong> colored eyeshadows palette, this is it!
\nAnastasia Beverly Hills is so on point\u00a0with\u00a0colors and trends, I have already mentioned it several times in my other posts on the brand. For me, this brand is really a trend setter<\/strong>\u00a0and they\u00a0also definitely master the art of color<\/strong>! And something tells me you’ll see a lot of red and ochre eyeshadows in the next autumn-winter collections from the\u00a0other brands! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

The formula of the eyeshadows in the palette\u00a0reminds me of the ABH single eyeshadow I own<\/a>.\u00a0They are very creamy, they’re even “softer” in their texture but\u00a0I also find them quite powdery. Overall however, it’s a great formula<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

– Packaging and practicity:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’ll start with what I like the least in this palette. wink<\/span>
\nI can’t really understand\u00a0the choice of this velvet like packaging<\/strong>… The soft pink color is quite nice but the kind\u00a0of faux-suede finish ends up catching\u00a0dust like nobody’s business and will inevitably end up being stained with eyeshadows\u00a0(after a week of use, it was already dirty\u00a0-_- ) Why, Anastasia, why???
\nOtherwise, it’s a classic cardboard palette with a mirror, which is always handy<\/strong> and a double brush tip (which is not great, the bristles are shedding\u00a0super easily…). So in short, nothing super exciting<\/strong> on that side.<\/p>\n

– Color choice, finishes and versatility:<\/strong><\/p>\n

As I said above, the choice of colors will clearly please the\u00a0makeup lovers<\/strong> (you can really achieve a lot of great makeup looks with this palette), but also those who want trendy and modern<\/strong> makeup looks.
\nThe color range is\u00a0perfect for all skin tones and I would say it’s a perfect palette for medium to\u00a0dark skin tones. However, it’s also perfect\u00a0for fair skin tones, but clearly it’s quite a bold color selection<\/strong>. However\u00a0the colors, even if they’re quite bright, are still very wearable and flattering<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Some colors seem to look alike when you look at them\u00a0in the palette (such as Raw Sienna\/ Golden Ochre\/ Burnt Orange or Venetian Red\/ Love Letter) and it’s true that they’re close but as you will see on the swatches, they look\u00a0different<\/strong> on the skin. Even if they clearly are\u00a0in the same color family, they’ve got different undertones so you can create a full range of different makeup looks<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Regarding\u00a0the finishes, the brand speaks of 11 mattes and 3 metalics. I would rather say that it contains:
\n– 8 real\u00a0mats<\/strong>: Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Buon Fresco, Red Ochre, Love Letter, Warm Taupe, Cyprus Umber, Realgar,
\n– 3 luminous mats<\/strong>\u00a0(presque satin\u00e9s): Tempera, Golden Ochre,\u00a0Venetian Red,
\n– 1 shimmery<\/strong>: Antique Bronze,
\n– 2 metallics<\/strong>: Vermeer, Primavera.<\/p>\n

This choice of finishes is absolutely great and allows\u00a0tons\u00a0of different associations and makeup\u00a0looks<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

\"Anastasia<\/a>\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

– Overall quality of the eyeshadows:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I found the overall quality of the eyeshadows\u00a0very good<\/strong>: they are ultra creamy, easy to blend\u00a0and the pigmentation is excellent.
\nHowever, they are quite powdery<\/strong>, so you need to remember to tap your brush to prevent fall outs on your cheeks!
\nAlso,when I swatched Love Letter for the first time, I thought that the pigmentation was quite weak\u00a0compared to others but in fact, it performs very well on\u00a0the eyelids and it\u00a0has a good pigmentation!<\/p>\n

– Value for money:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The value for money of this palette is pretty good<\/strong>, it contains\u00a014 eyeshadows\u00a0for $42<\/strong> so it’s a fair price tag, IMO! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Availability:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The palette is part of the brand permanent collection and it’s available\u00a0on Anastasia Beverly Hills<\/a>‘ website, but also on Cult Beauty<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0in Dubai, it’s already been available at Sephora for\u00a0a few days now (RUN!).<\/p>\n

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, the colors:<\/h3>\n
\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

– Tempera:<\/strong>\u00a0a flesh color, very luminous.<\/p>\n

\u00a0– Golden Ochre: <\/strong>it’s\u00a0a very light beige ochre yellow. It’s a real matte and it’s stunning all over the eyelid or in the crease.<\/p>\n

– Vermeer: <\/strong>a beautiful champagne, slightly pink and very metallic. It really catches the\u00a0light.<\/p>\n

– Buon Fresco: <\/strong>a beautiful dusty mauve matte eyeshadow quite muted, it’s still a neutral shade. I have a weakness for these kind of colors in the crease\u00a0or all over the eyelid.<\/p>\n

– Antique Bronze: <\/strong>a beautiful color, much more complex than it first seems. It’s a neutral brown with pink undertones\u00a0but it can sometimes look taupe, sometimes bronze depending on\u00a0the light. It’s a shimmery\u00a0eyeshadow. For me, this is the perfect shade\u00a0for a simple and effective makeup look, especially paired with Buon Fresco in the crease! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Love Letter: <\/strong>a lovely raspberry pink, very bright. Maybe\u00a0not the eyeshadow I would wear the most, but it’s surprisingly wearable\u00a0when it’s paired with the other colors in the palette! I really like it!<\/p>\n

– Cyprus Umber: <\/strong>a beautiful neutral dark brown that really helps to intensify all\u00a0the makeup looks.<\/p>\n

\"Anastasia<\/a><\/div>\n

– Raw Sienna:\u00a0<\/strong>a beautiful matte amber, very luminous.<\/p>\n

– Burnt Orange: <\/strong>an orange shade\u00a0with a light ochre undertone, perfect as transition shade for\u00a0very intense and dark smokey eyes or even used by itself on the entire eyelid.<\/p>\n

– Primavera:\u00a0<\/strong>a very metallic light gold, perfect to highlight\u00a0an inner corner or the center\u00a0of the eyelid.<\/p>\n

– Red Ochre: <\/strong>a beautiful matte orange-red, almost like a Sienna pigment, very warm\u00a0and intense. One of my favorite color in this palette!<\/p>\n

– Venetian Red:\u00a0<\/strong>a stunning and deep matte\u00a0crimson, with very fine iridescent particles, which makes it very luminous.<\/p>\n

– Warm Taupe: <\/strong>a beige brown color, slightly taupe. It’s a matte finish.<\/p>\n

– Realgar: <\/strong>this color\u00a0scared me at first, but on the eyelid, it’s really beautiful and actually quite easy to wear. It’s a beautiful orange brick, almost sienna. It’s a matte finish.<\/p>\n

For this\u00a0look,I applied\u00a0Tempera<\/strong>\u00a0as a base all over,\u00a0Buon Fresco <\/strong>and\u00a0Warm Taupe <\/strong>in the crease, Antique Bronze<\/strong>\u00a0all over the eyelid,\u00a0Cyprus Umber\u00a0<\/strong>in the outter V and along the lash line and\u00a0Vermeer\u00a0<\/strong>in the inner corner.
\nMy lipstick combo here is also from ABH, it’s the matte liquid lipstick\u00a0Crush<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0the lip-gloss\u00a0Kristen<\/a>\u00a0on top.<\/p>\n

– Look 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u00a0applied\u00a0Tempera<\/strong>\u00a0all over as a base, Burnt\u00a0<\/strong>Orange<\/b>\u00a0in the crease, Cyprus Umber<\/strong>\u00a0in the outter V,\u00a0Realgar <\/strong>and\u00a0Red Ochre<\/strong>\u00a0as a \u00a0halo on the side of the eyelids, Primavera<\/strong>\u00a0on the middle of the eyelid and in the inner corner. My black gel liner is by\u00a0Inglot<\/a>.
\nOn my lips, it’s the\u00a0Lippie Stix Sheer Kiddo<\/a>\u00a0by ColourPop\u00a0(I love it so much, it’s almost finished, can you believe it???)<\/p>\n

I applied\u00a0Tempera<\/strong>\u00a0as a base, Buon Fresco<\/strong>\u00a0in the crease, Love Letter <\/strong>is the star of the show here and it’s on my entire eyelid, Cyprus Umber<\/strong>\u00a0is in the outter V and along the lash line, mixed with\u00a0Love Letter<\/strong>, and\u00a0Vermeer<\/strong>\u00a0in the inner corner. I also used\u00a0Costa Riche by MAC\u00a0i<\/a>n the waterline.
\nOn my lips, it’s the Vice Lisptick in the shade Sheer Liar by Urban Decay<\/a>.<\/p>\n
