Can you believe that the\u00a0Illamasqua Beyond Powder OMG<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0highlighter is my first ever\u00a0Illamasqua<\/a>\u00a0makeup product?<\/h2>\n

Yet, my friends who know and love the brand have been talking to me about it for a very long time already! (Yes, Noor<\/a> and Aseya<\/a>, it’s you I’m talking about wink<\/span> ). And I confess that I\u00a0was a complete stranger to the brand until then. The breakthrough came as I was watching Aseya’s Snapshat story a few weeks ago. She recently went to London to attend\u00a0an Illamasqua makeup training session\u00a0and it really looks\u00a0super cool!<\/p>\n

What is Illamasqua?<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Illamasqua is a brand from England (and you can feel it!wink ).<\/p>\n

The brand was founded by Julian Kynaston<\/strong>, a well-known entrepreneur in the world of English beauty brands. After working for years\u00a0for some\u00a0successful\u00a0English brands (GHD, Tangle Teezer etc), he decided to create his own makeup brand while he was attending the goth festival in the city of Whitby<\/a>, North Yorkshire (can this story be more English?) (and I'm not even talking about his past as a Leeds football club hooligan) (I know,\u00a0it's kind of crazy!) (#onlyintheUK).<\/p>\n

While he was in a pub in Whitby, he noticed that the people who were there to attend the festival had\u00a0a real connection<\/strong> with each other through their respective makeups. It was mostly very creative<\/strong> makeups, which allowed them to express their true personalities<\/strong> but also to\u00a0identify each other.
\nHe decided to create a brand with a professional quality<\/strong>, rich in different and original colors<\/strong> to please\u00a0all those who wanted to express themselves through makeup and get out of the usual beauty standards.<\/p>\n

So he founded Illamasqua in 2008<\/strong>. He was joined in 2010 by Joseph Corre<\/strong>, the son of Vivienne Westwood (the eccentric English\u00a0fashion designer) and Malcolm McLaren (the manager of the Sex Pistols). It's difficult to create more punk roots than that for a brand, isn't it?wink<\/p>\n

The name Illamasqua<\/strong> is a contraction of the two words \"Illusion<\/strong>\" and \"Masquerade<\/strong>\".
\nThe brand is clearly inspired by the aesthetics of the Goth movement, early 20th century German theaters and burlesque cabarets but also by the ultra glamorous Hollywood golden age.
\nThe visual communication is often very magical<\/strong>, sometimes dark<\/strong> and above all truly underground<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Illamasqua's values:<\/h3>\n

Illamasqua is an eco-friendly<\/strong> brand. They don't test their products on animals<\/strong> and they also use synthetic bristles for their makeup brushes. All products are also vegan<\/strong>.
\nMoreover, the mantra of Illamasqua is the expression and respect of individuality<\/strong>. The slogan of Illamasqua is \"Make-up your alter ego,\" which refers to the idea of applying makeup not to hide but to reveal and express your\u00a0true personality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Besides fighting for the freedom of creativity, the brand partners with the\u00a0S.O.P.H.I.E Lancaster Foundation<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>created after\u00a0the death of a young Englishwoman beaten to death because her look was \"different\". Illamasqua has also helped to create a video\u00a0about the tragedy<\/a> to help increase awareness on this topic.
\nIllamasqua gives\u00a0\u00a33 to the Foundation for each S.O.P.H.I.E. eyeliner pencil<\/a> bought, and encourages its clients to relay a message of tolerance.<\/p>\n

Aseya also showed some of\u00a0the products she purchased\u00a0on Snapshat with her pro discount\u00a0(lucky her!). And I had a mini heart attack when I saw her highlighter Beyond Power in the shade Epic<\/a>. I sent her a message immediately\u00a0to know more about it and she sadly told me\u00a0that the shade for fair skin (OMG) was unfortunately completely sold out everywhere at that time. Because Epic is stunning but it’s a rose gold, perfect for Aseya and her lovely caramel complexion but less for mine.
\nAnd when I saw the color OMG<\/strong>, I immediately fell in love (didn’t really help, Aseya raving about\u00a0the product) (if you want to save money, avoid being friends with bloggers, it usually means a death sentence\u00a0for\u00a0your wallet ah ah ah wink<\/span> ).<\/p>\n

So I basically hunted it\u00a0down as you\u00a0should when you’re a makeup-addict and a few weeks later it\u00a0was available again on Illamasqua<\/a> website so\u00a0I could\u00a0get my greedy hands on it.<\/p>\n

What the brand says about it:<\/p>\n

“A baked highlighting powder subtly adding a warm hue to your complexion for a natural, radiant glow. Whether you want to achieve an all over illuminating finish or simply highlight certain points, Beyond\u2019s lightweight texture glides onto skin effortlessly, creating a healthy, flawless skin finish. With the choice to apply wet or dry, it provides long lasting results and can also be used on the body to achieve a natural, bronzed skin effect.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The fact that it’s a baked powder<\/strong> makes it quite different from the other highlighters I own. Typically, baked powders\u00a0are finer\u00a0and more subtle than traditional highlighters.
\nI also have another highlighter a little bit similar to this one: the Laura Mercier<\/a>\u00a0Matte Radiance Baked Powder\u00a0that I love. The colors are quite different and the Illamasqua one is more intense<\/strong> and a\u00a0slightly warmer undertone<\/strong>. Its color is almost duo-chrome: it’s between a light golden and a slightly pink champagne. It’s a real gem<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

I also love the fact you can apply it wet or dry<\/strong> according to the intensity you want. It can also be layered\u00a0for a more intense effect and almost “metallic” but even so, it’s still super subtle.
\nHowever, for the possible application all over the face, I confess that with my oily skin, I don’t really feel like it’s a good idea…<\/p>\n

In short, as you have probably guessed already, I really love this product! bigsmile<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Formula and texture:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The texture is very fine and quite powdery\u00a0when you dust your\u00a0brush in it (it’s quite characteristic from\u00a0baked powders) but it’s easy to apply on the face and it won’t leave fall outs everywhere.
\nAbout the ingredients, no nasty petrochemical derivatives like Becca<\/a>. tongue<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Packaging:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I love this sleek black plastic compact\u00a0with a mirror. It’s\u00a0very elegant IMO.<\/p>\n

– Finish:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shimmery\u00a0but very subtle. It brings a very natural radiant glow to the cheeks. It can be\u00a0more intense depending on\u00a0the amount you\u00a0apply on the skin but it’s never too much. The iridescent finish is so fine\u00a0that it blends\u00a0into the skin without making any texture\u00a0like with some of the other, thicker highlighters.
\nIn short, and to stay in the fantastic goth world of Illamasqua, it looks like fairy or star dust<\/strong>! heart<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Color Range:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s available in 2 shades:
\n– Epic<\/strong>: a sublime rose gold that will be perfect for\u00a0dark skin tones (although I can’t help but want it, even if I’m super pale\u00a0because it’s so beautiful, but I definitely have to restrain myself)
\n– OMG<\/strong>: a light golden champagne almost pink but with a warm undertone.\u00a0It’s almost duo-chrome with all these shades blended together\u00a0but it would be a subtle duo-chrome. It’s ideal for light skins or even darker skin tones\u00a0who want a very intense highlighter.<\/p>\n

\"Illamasqua<\/a><\/div>\n

– Application:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I use one of my favorite highlighter brushes:
\n– the\u00a0Sigma F35<\/a>,
\n– the\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills #23<\/a>
\n– the\u00a0Morphe 310<\/a>.\u00a0This one is ideal for a very light and natural application.<\/p>\n

– Pigmentation:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Very good\u00a0pigmentation\u00a0and the color is easily buildable.<\/p>\n

– Lasting Power:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It lasts pretty well on my skin\u00a0(about 8h), especially if you apply it with a wet makeup brush.<\/p>\n

– Value For Money:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s not cheap but it’s also not a small quantity\u00a0(7g) and it’s great quality. It retails for\u00a032\u00a3 (about $42).<\/p>\n
