Before I start the reviews of\u00a0my many North American finds, I want to talk about an oldie but goodie kind of product. It ‘s also the only eyeshadow palette that was in my travel makeup kit during my 3 week road-trip! Say hello to\u00a0my new BF, the\u00a0Too Faced Chocolate Bar\u00a0eyeshadow palette<\/a>! smile<\/span> <\/h2>\n

I reviewed the\u00a0Chocolate Bon Bons eyeshadow palette<\/a>\u00a0a few months ago, which\u00a0I rather\u00a0liked, despite its very kitsch packaging. I’m still not a big fan of the Chocolate Bar one, but I\u00a0find it a bit\u00a0more sober than the Bon Bons version. As I told you in my previous article, I don’t think I’m really the target of the\u00a0brand Too Faced<\/strong> ( I’m probably 15-20 years too old lol). But\u00a0really, if I forget about the\u00a0kitschy or cute packaging (delete as appropriate ), I am more and more convinced by the good quality of this brand’s products<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette<\/strong> was released\u00a0a few years ago now (2012 or 2013, I’m not sure?) and I still hear a lot of “beauty gurus” (especially the US) raving about it and consider it as a cult favorite.<\/p>\n

So, what made\u00a0me\u00a0purchase it 3 or 4 years after its first release?<\/strong> I recently reviewed the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom eyeshadow palette<\/a>, which I thought was the perfect palette to bring\u00a0on a trip (I was really considering bringing it with me\u00a0during my North American road-trip<\/a> when I bought it) and if you read this review, you will remember that I wasn’t really convinced… uneasy<\/span>
\nI thought I could do\u00a0like last summer and take my Z-Palette with my selection of favorites\u00a0MUG<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0ABH<\/a>\u00a0eyeshadows\u00a0but the last time I flew to\u00a0France, half of my eyeshadows ended smashed\u00a0because of disturbances during the return flight (it was a wonderful experience, by the way… When we landed in Dubai, the stewardess who spent her time yelling at the passengers, asking them to remain\u00a0calm during disturbances, made a cross sign just in front of\u00a0me, meaning something like “Thank God, we’re still alive!” With such reassuring staff, I totally understand that many people are afraid to fly. Anyway. #rollingeyesemoji)<\/p>\n

Anyway, thanks to one of my many<\/del> trip(s) to my local Sephora, I finally decided to slip it into my basket a few weeks before leaving to the US and Canada. And now that I’m back home, I can tell you that it was definitely a good idea<\/strong>! bigsmile<\/span> <\/p>\n

What the brand says about it:<\/p>\n

“The Chocolate Bar experience begins as soon as you open the palette and the smell of sweet chocolate envelops you.
\nThe eye shadows are pigmented with pure, antioxidant-rich cocoa powder and includes 16 matte and shimmer shades of natural browns, delicate pinks and luscious plums. Includes our signature how-to Glamour Guide with three looks to get you started.\u00a0<\/span>“<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette<\/strong> is the first eyeshadow palette of\u00a0the Too Faced “Chocolate” range. Since this one was a\u00a0huge commercial success, two others were released after the Chocolate Bar, the Semi-Sweet Chocolate<\/a> and also\u00a0Bon Bons<\/a>. This range\u00a0has since begun to shift a little\u00a0with the Sweet Peach<\/a>, a limited edition eyeshadow\u00a0palette released last summer, all about\u00a0the peach color. It also has a peach fragrance\u00a0(clearly not my thing \u00a0lol :P). Although I haven’t been personally\u00a0convinced, it\u00a0was out of stock very soon after its release. Too Faced announced it would return this coming\u00a0December, and this time permanently. It will even be paired\u00a0with a Sweet Peach collection: a\u00a0highlighter palette<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0blush<\/a>\u00a0(the brand knows how to capitalize on its success, no doubt\u00a0;) ).<\/p>\n

4 years ago, the make-up world was fascinated by the Urban Decay’s Naked eyeshadow palettes<\/a>. Many \u00a0makeup brands wanted to add\u00a0their own version of the perfect neutral eyeshadow palette\u00a0that everyone (still) loves. Although it was undoubtedly the initial idea for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette, I\u00a0can definitely say that the brand was able to offer a nice twist<\/strong> to the original concept.<\/p>\n

A neutral eyeshadow palette is basically an eyeshadow\u00a0palette in a brown harmony<\/strong> (It’s a caricature, but it’s not far from the truth). Too Faced has always played\u00a0with its packaging with\u00a0a playful and fun\u00a0vision of makeup<\/strong>. The brand introduced\u00a0this palette as\u00a0a box of chocolates<\/strong> with all the yummy\u00a0variations it may involve: ganache, truffle, milk chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate cherry etc, etc.
\nAll the neutral colors<\/strong> you may need\u00a0for a natural everyday makeup but with a\u00a0fun<\/strong>\u00a0side that helps to make things a bit more exciting<\/strong> (because,\u00a0let’s face it, a neutral eyeshadow palette can be very boring sometime, can’t it?). Too Faced has even\u00a0decided to give this palette the appearance of a chocolate bar<\/strong> and also, to infuse the eyeshadows with\u00a0cocoa powder<\/strong> (for its antioxidant virtues) and to give it a chocolate scent. (In short, if you hate chocolate, this palette is clearly not for you wink<\/span> ).<\/p>\n

It’s an eyeshadow palette with\u00a016 multi-use shades<\/strong>. It may also well help you create\u00a0a super natural<\/strong> look (kind of a no-makeup makeup look) or to do a very dramatic smokey eye<\/strong> with the darker colors. There’s a good variety of finishes as well : matte, satin, glittery, metallic…<\/p>\n

This is the kind of eyeshadow palette\u00a0that you can take with you on vacation<\/strong>. I used it during my 3 week road-trip and I\u00a0wasn’t\u00a0bored at all: buy it! smile<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Packaging and\u00a0practicality:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s a metallic case shaped as a chocolate bar<\/strong>. It’s cute, though it’s not really my thing, I admit. However, it’s quite solid and easy to carry, because it’s not too thick. Well, sure, it’s not really light but no one is perfect, I guess… wink<\/span>
\nIt contains a mirror, but it’s a quite narrow one. I tried to use it when I was on vacation, and I was not really convinced (you cannot see much in it, it’s really an emergency mirror wink<\/span> ).<\/p>\n

– Color Choice and Versatility:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u00a0is very easy to use<\/strong>, with mostly neutral eyeshadows<\/strong>\u00a0in some shades of brown, bronze, gold and plums<\/strong> but there are also some more colorful ones, providing\u00a0a pop of colours to spice up the makeup look a little bit. I was quite scared by the baby pink shade\u00a0(Strawberry Bon Bons) but it’s actually\u00a0great mixed with one of the brown shades\u00a0to cool it a little\u00a0and it’s also beautiful on\u00a0its own, to brighten\u00a0the eyelid.<\/p>\n

The variety of the finishes can provide a multitude of different makeup looks<\/strong>, from the most natural to the most intense, very neutral or super colorful, 100%\u00a0matte or very glittery.
\nI also like the fact that 2 light shades\u00a0are larger than others: White Chocolate<\/strong>, which is a great matte base kind of shade and Champagne Truffle<\/strong>, a beautiful luminous light golden pink, such a good inner corner\u00a0highlighter. I use these 2 shades for each makeup look I do with this palette. So, it’s rather nice to have a little more of these! smile<\/span> <\/p>\n

\"Too<\/a><\/div>\n

– Overall Eyeshadow Quality:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I found the overall quality of\u00a0the eyeshadows\u00a0pretty good<\/strong>: a texture that blends\u00a0easily, a good pigmentation, almost no fall out…
\nHowever, some of them are less pigmented than others. And in general, I don’t really love super\u00a0glittery eyeshadows\u00a0so Gilded Ganache<\/strong> is not my favorite, for example. Its color is also deceptive: I expected a nice khaki shade\u00a0(I love this color for an\u00a0eyeshadow!) And it’s actually a matte dark brown with gold glitter. I would have rather\u00a0preferred\u00a0a beautiful metallic golden kaki instead… This shade is also a little bit stiff, not the easiest\u00a0to apply. Such a shame… uneasy<\/span>
\nCandid Violet<\/strong> is also a little bit too much in terms of glitter for my taste (same thing, I would have preferred a metallic shade but, the color is still really pretty). This one is thankfully well pigmented.
\nHowever, I’m pretty disappointed with Cherry Cordial<\/strong>, which has a very bad\u00a0pigmentation and is also super dry. Too bad, because I love the color…
\nApart from these few reservations, I think it’s still a good palette\u00a0overall.<\/p>\n

– Value For Money:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The value for money of this palette is pretty good, there are 16 eyeshadows for $49<\/strong> (and it’s good quality).<\/p>\n

– Availability:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The palette is part of the brand’s permanent collection and it’s available on Too Faced<\/a>‘s website.<\/p>\n

– Gilded Chocolate:\u00a0<\/strong>I expected\u00a0a pretty shimmery\u00a0kaki green, but it’s actually a matte\u00a0dark\u00a0brown containing gold\u00a0glitter<\/strong>. These are very thin, which is a good point, but the eyeshadow\u00a0is a little dry and you really have to\u00a0layer it to obtain a good color pay-off on the eyelid. This is quite disappointing, I must say… uneasy<\/span> <\/p>\n

\u00a0– White Chocolate:\u00a0<\/strong>a\u00a0matte light nude shade<\/strong>. I use it mostly as a base all over the lid to unify it. I use it in all the makeup looks\u00a0I do with this palette or even to correct if I blend\u00a0a shade\u00a0a little bit too far. It’s creamy and covering, I \u00a0really like it.<\/p>\n

– Milk Chocolate: <\/strong>a very pretty transition shade, it’s a light beige caramel color,\u00a0slightly\u00a0ocher <\/strong>and it’s matte<\/strong>. The undertone is cool, and it goes with a lot of makeup looks.<\/p>\n

– Black Forest Truffle:\u00a0<\/strong>a beautiful dark burgundy with\u00a0multicolored glitter<\/strong>. It has a good coverage and a good pigmentation. I find it easier to apply than Gilded Ganache, which is also glittery.<\/p>\n

– Triple Fudge:\u00a0<\/strong>a\u00a0neutral matte dark brown<\/strong>, which I usually use as a\u00a0liner along the lash line. I apply it wet for a graphic effect or dry for a more\u00a0smoky result.<\/p>\n

\"Too<\/a><\/div>\n

– Salted Caramel:\u00a0<\/strong>a\u00a0light\u00a0orange caramel matte<\/strong> shade, perfect to use as a transition in the crease. I use this color a lot, it goes with so many colors and really brightens the eyes.<\/p>\n

– Marzipan:\u00a0<\/strong>a metallic pink Champagne<\/strong>, quite warm<\/strong>, very luminous. One of the shades I use the most in this palette. I love it all over the eyelid!<\/p>\n

– Semi-Sweet:\u00a0<\/strong>a true milk chocolate shade, matte<\/strong>. Ideal for a transition shade. I love to mix it with salted Caramel. They’re quite similar, Semi-Sweet is just darker.<\/p>\n

– Strawberry Bon Bon:\u00a0<\/strong>a light pink matte color<\/strong>. I was quite scared to use it in\u00a0the beginning!\u00a0But finally, I liked it, mixed with a brown shade (like Semi-Sweet or Milk Chocolate for example), to give a cool side to it\u00a0or even used by itself\u00a0to brighten\u00a0the eyelid.<\/p>\n

– Candied Violet:\u00a0<\/strong>a very pretty\u00a0purple glittery<\/strong> shade, with lots of pink glitter in it. I love the color, even if I would prefer it with a little less glitter, tending\u00a0to leave\u00a0more fall outs (as often with glittery makeup). But it’s still a pretty color\u00a0that I enjoy using for my\u00a0cooler and dramatic makeup looks.<\/p>\n

– Amaretto:\u00a0<\/strong>a beautiful metallic bronzy plum<\/strong>. It could have been a little\u00a0more creamy and intense in my opinion, and I have to layer it a bit if I want maximum opacity, but thankfully, it layers\u00a0quite well on the eyelid.<\/p>\n

– Hazelnut:\u00a0<\/strong>a pretty shimmery chocolate shade<\/strong>.\u00a0Perfect to intensify a makeup look!<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Cr\u00e8me\u00a0Br\u00fbl\u00e9e: <\/strong>one of my favorite shades of the palette. It’s an antique gold, almost bronze, very metallic. It has a great pigmentation and I\u00a0love to apply it all over the lid.<\/p>\n

– Haute Chocolate:\u00a0<\/strong>a another shimmery brown, cooler<\/strong> than Hazelnut. A very pretty neutral shade.<\/p>\n

– Cherry Cordial:\u00a0<\/strong>a real disappointment. It’s a matte burgundy shade, with fine purple glitter<\/strong>. The pigmentation is barely there, it’s almost sheer and its texture is dry and stiff. It’s not easy to apply at all. You really need to layer it on to obtain\u00a0a minimum color pay off. Such a shame, really. uneasy<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Champagne Truffle:\u00a0<\/strong>the highlighter shade in the\u00a0palette. It’s a very light golden pink<\/strong>, with a metallic finish<\/strong>. It’s ideal applied at the inner corner of the eye. I use it with all the makeup\u00a0looks I’ve done with this palette!<\/p>\n

I’m wearing\u00a0White Chocolate<\/strong> as a base, Salted Caramel<\/strong> in the crease, Marzipan<\/strong> on the eyelid, Amaretto<\/strong> in the outer V, Cherry Cordial<\/strong> along the lash line, and\u00a0Champagne Truffle<\/strong>\u00a0in the inner corner.
\nMy liner is the\u00a0ColourPop Gel Creme Liner in the shade\u00a0Best O<\/a>\u00a0and on my lips, it’s the\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick in the shade Dolce<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in the shade\u00a0A Boo<\/a>\u00a0on top.<\/p>\n

– Look 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n

My liner is the\u00a0ColourPop Gel Creme Liner in the shade\u00a0Workout<\/a>. On my lips, it’s the\u00a0ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in the shade\u00a0Fairy Floss<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nMy liner is the\u00a0Gel Liner Inglot in Black<\/a>\u00a0and on my lips, I’m wearing the\u00a0Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick\u00a0in the shade\u00a0Crush<\/a>\u00a0and on top, the ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in the shade\u00a0Bestie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I am very pleased with\u00a0the overall quality of this palette<\/strong> and its\u00a0selection of colors<\/strong>, which I find very flattering and easy for every day use. The quality of the eyeshadow is good\u00a0and I must admit that I quite like the good smell of chocolate<\/strong> (it’s not too chemical, it smells like real chocolate!). For the price, it really offers\u00a0a nice color selection and you can do a lot of different makeup looks with it.<\/p>\n
