Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation<\/a>\u00a0is the\u00a0first\u00a0foundation stick I’ve used. To be honest, I almost feel bad telling you about this product. Because, let me put this straight: it’s a gem! Unfortunately, it also has a major flaw…<\/h2>\n

Last month, when I went into my first North American Sephora store in Montreal, I prepared a wish-list of products to try to reduce the risk of me losing it once I was here (so many temptations everywhere!!!). This foundation was not on the list, so it was part of the collateral damage. (Obviously, I lost it in there, the choice is just way\u00a0too insane!)<\/p>\n

But honestly, if I made some mistakes in my big crazy\u00a0cosmetics shopping (which I will probably have the opportunity to talk about later here), the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick<\/strong> was definitely not one of them! smile<\/span> <\/p>\n

What the brand says about it:<\/p>\n

“A revolutionary foundation stick with the coverage of a concealer, the fluidity of a liquid, and the weightlessness of a powder in a long-wearing waterproof formula for undetectable full coverage.
\nThe unprecedented concentration of pigment in this foundation provides maximum coverage with minimum product, concealing all discoloration and imperfections for flawless skin with a seamless finish.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In summary, a foundation that gives a good\u00a0coverage<\/strong> without being cakey. And\u00a0before trying these, I thought all foundation sticks were very obvious on the skin. Probably because those I remember using in beauty school were meant more for\u00a0stage makeup.
\nThis is quite surprisingly lightweight<\/strong>\u00a0and considering\u00a0its stick format, it’s super convenient and easy to use<\/strong>, which is always a plus!<\/p>\n

It has a\u00a0satin finish<\/strong>, and initially, I wondered if I would\u00a0not end up with a super greasy\u00a0skin after\u00a0a few hours (my skin is on the oilier side). However, Hourglass describes the Vanish foundation as waterproof and long-lasting<\/strong>, so I thought it could perhaps be a good one to try. In Dubai, the temperatures are still high, so I definitely need a foundation that doesn’t melt above 30 degrees! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

It comes in 26 shades<\/strong> (!) and it retails for\u00a0$46.<\/p>\n

– Formula and\u00a0texture:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was expecting a fairly dense texture, a “waxy” texture, like a concealer stick but\u00a0it’s really not the case at all. It’s very creamy and it glides easily on the skin when applied, without leaving a greasy effect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

– Color Range:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A very wide choice with 26 shades<\/strong>. They go\u00a0from the lightest (the first is called Blanc to give you an idea\u00a0;) ) to the darkest, with many choices in\u00a0the undertones (cool, neutral or warm), which is ideal to choose the closest color to your\u00a0natural skin tone (undertones can really make a big difference, I guarantee! For\u00a0example, in my case, I definitely have to choose a neutral\u00a0or warm undertone\u00a0otherwise I look like\u00a0Miss Piggy right away right away).
\nI have\u00a0the color Warm Ivory<\/strong>, which\u00a0was perfect for\u00a0me early September but which will be probably a little bit\u00a0too golden for me this winter. I still manage to use it now, but I will probably need a lighter shade this winter.<\/p>\n

– Scent:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s fragrance-free<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Hourglass<\/a><\/div>\n

– Packaging:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A very nice metallized plastic packaging, with a very elegant\u00a0<\/strong>design. The stick of\u00a0foundation is shaped as a\u00a0triangle, and it’s perfect for a super precise application!<\/p>\n

– Application:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It took me a little while\u00a0to try different\u00a0application techniques (I tried several methods\u00a0and also\u00a0differing amounts of product) but once I found my favorite way to apply it, it was perfect!
\nI first applied it\u00a0with my\u00a0finger tips, and I liked it. It’s easy and it blends very well into the skin.
\nThen I tried with my favorite sponge, the Beauty Blender<\/a>, and the result was\u00a0quite nice. But to be honest, I find that it takes to much\u00a0time to apply.
\nAnd finally, and it became my favorite method, I used my big foundation brush by Marc Jacobs<\/a> and it was perfect!\u00a0The finish is flawless\u00a0in less than 30 seconds!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regarding the right\u00a0amount of product to use: this also took me a little while to figure it out. It’s very\u00a0easy to put too much! The coverage is pretty high, so if you want a natural effect I would definitely advise not to put too much.
\nGenerally, I apply 1 swipe on my\u00a0nose, 1\u00a0swipe\u00a0on every\u00a0cheek, 1 on my forehead, 1 on my chin and that’s it. You don’t need \u00a0to draw war paint all over your face like\u00a0some American YouTubers (and Dutch<\/a>) like to do!<\/p>\n

Also, I noticed that the finish stays prettier longer\u00a0when I apply\u00a0less. Applied in big\u00a0quantities, it looks gorgeous during the first 2 hours and\u00a0after,\u00a0it tends to emphasize\u00a0the skin texture. Whereas if I apply\u00a0less, it really stays pretty all day.<\/p>\n

– Pigmentation and coverage: <\/strong><\/p>\n

You can feel that the coverage is super high immediately after you applied it\u00a0but it’s really a buildable<\/strong> product.
\nI would definitely call it a medium to full coverage<\/strong> though. I personally don’t use it as a concealer in my under eyes area, because I prefer to use products with\u00a0different colors in order to correct my dark circles, but it works very well to correct my spots when I have some! wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

\"Hourglass<\/a><\/div>\n

– Finish:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The finish on the skin\u00a0is very nice and quite natural<\/strong>. It’s a satin finish<\/strong>, and it really blurs the\u00a0pores. As I have oily skin, I always powder with a transparent loose powder to set it\u00a0but even with the powder, it remains very luminous.
\nRegarding the feeling\u00a0on the skin, I can\u00a0barely\u00a0feel it, the texture is super lightweight and comfortable<\/strong>. I wasn’t expecting it at all, considering its\u00a0stick format and coverage! It was\u00a0a very good surprise. smile<\/span> <\/p>\n

– Lasting Power:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lasting power\u00a0is pretty good<\/strong>. After a few hours, it’s a little shinier in my T-Zone, obviously, but I would still describe it as\u00a0long-lasting<\/strong>.
\nRecently,\u00a0I spent a lot of time outdoors, and it’s\u00a0more than 35 degrees at the moment in Dubai, to visit non air-conditioned apartments. (I’m in the process of moving) In the evening,\u00a0my foundation was still there, it didn’t melt\u00a0and separate! (I had these kind of experiences with other high coverage foundations)<\/p>\n

– Value For Money: <\/strong><\/p>\n

This is its biggest flaw: it’s very pricy<\/strong>. The amount of product you get is not huge (7.2 g<\/strong>, it’s definitely less than similar products with\u00a0the same format) (to compare, the MUFE HD<\/a>\u00a0Foundation\u00a0Stick is 12g for $43).
\nSo even if you don’t need to use a lot of product, $46\u00a0for this weight\u00a0is\u00a0still very expensive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Finally, here are the\u00a0swatches:<\/h3>\n

As\u00a0you can see\u00a0in the picture, it’s quite high coverage<\/strong>\u00a0initially but it blends\u00a0on the skin very easily. Warm Ivory<\/strong> is a little bit\u00a0too yellow compared to the color of my forearm but it blends well with my skin face, especially when I\u00a0have a little tan.<\/p>\n

On my lips, it’s the\u00a0NARS Velvet Lip Glide in the shade\u00a0Bound<\/a>. wink<\/span> <\/p>\n

So, in summary:<\/h3>\n

I really, really like this\u00a0foundation, especially applied with my\u00a0Marc Jacobs foundation brush, such an\u00a0ideal combo! (The brush Hourglass released<\/a> at the same time that this foundation looks very\u00a0similar, actually)
\nHowever,\u00a0the price is quite ridiculous\u00a0in my opinion, and I don’t think it will\u00a0last very long either,\u00a0considering the amount of product you get…<\/p>\n
